Oriximiná receives funding for use of forest

Oriximiná in Para, it was the first city to benefit from the economic use of federal public forests. The municipality received the Brazilian Forest Service (SFB), transfer of $ 753,000, related to sustainable timber production in the National Forest (Flona) Saracá-Taquera.

The transfer is provided for in Article 39 of the Public Forest Management Law No. 11,284 / 2006, which determines what part of the amount paid to the SFB for the management of federal forests are distributed between the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity (ICMBio) , the National Fund for Forest Development (FNDF) and the states and municipalities that are home to the concedias forests.

RECOVERY

According to the environmental secretary Oriximiná, Claudio Navarro, the money will be used according to the implementation plan approved by the Municipal Council for the Environment. "The appeal will be very important to enable the municipal environmental policies," he said. "With it we can perform recovery actions of degraded areas, monitoring and environmental education."

The director of Forest Concession and SFB Monitoring, Marcus Vinicius Alves, explained that the transfer marks another moment the production of federal forests generates direct benefits to the surrounding areas under concession population. "Our expectation is that this transfer can be used effectively in environmental initiatives that directly benefit the local population," he said.

OTHER MUNICIPALITIES

If Oriximiná, the plan provides activities for the structuring of environmental management of the municipality, as the acquisition of a headquarters for the Environmental Council and the purchase of equipment and vehicles for the city. By projections of SFB, the municipality may receive about $ 5 million over the next five years. The transfers are regular and will vary according to the production of each management unit Flona Saracá-Taquera.

In addition to Oriximiná, the Pará municipalities of Faro and the Holy Land will also benefit. Already in Rondônia, the municipalities of Itapuã do Oeste, Cujubim, Candeias do Jamari and Porto Velho, have the resources to receive, for the Flona the economical use of Jamari, in the case of the first two, and Flona of Jacundá in others. < / p>

To be able to receive the transfer, municipalities should establish a municipal council of environment and prepare and approve by the board a plan of action for the implementation of the appeals.
