Main responsible for the reduction of carbon emissions in the country, the rate of deforestation in the Amazon will be released next week. The Environment Minister, Izabella Teixeira, announced on Thursday (19/11), who will present the figures before the 21th Conference of Parties (COP 21) in Paris. The summit will bring together, in the first half of December, representatives of 195 countries in order to sign a new global climate agreement.

The strategy will also include new monitoring system of illegal logging in all Brazilian ecosystems. According to Izabella, the intention is to evaluate the dynamics occurring in areas such as the Cerrado. "It's a process for all biomes in order to create a culture of monitoring," said the minister, on the 3rd Annual Seminar About Brazilian Emissions of Greenhouse Gases in Sao Paulo.

Recognition

The fight against deforestation adds to several other measures adopted by Brazil and puts the country in a prominent position to the international community. The data that will be announced soon come from the Monitoring Project Amazon Forest Satellite (PRODES), the National Institute for Space Research. "Brazil's rate is recognized as a model by the Convention (on Climate Change) Climate", stressed the minister.

The environmental agenda focuses on the establishment of a low carbon economy in Brazil. In addition to the various organs of government, the minister highlighted the role of civil society and the business in question. "There are still a few more conservative sectors we have to seduce" he said. "Also an innovative debate that is not yet fully set in Brazil on adaptation to climate change is needed."

In order to curb global warming, it was created the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC, its acronym in English), which has more than 190 signatories. Every year, representatives of these nations gather at the Conference of the Parties (COP) to develop goals and proposals for mitigation and adaptation, and to monitor the actions and agreements reached earlier.

Between November 30 and 11 December, will take place the 21th edition of the Conference, COP 21, in Paris. At the meeting, representatives of the countries will negotiate the terms of the new agreement on cutting greenhouse gas emissions. It is expected that this protocol start in 2020. To enforce this, the countries have announced, during the year, the national emission cut targets in their territories. .
